Design 17 - Nancy

,

Here we have Nancy (US60), one of the truly great S&S 6-meter racing yachts. Nancy was designed to compete in the 1932 British-American Cup. That's Olin at the helm during that series, racing on the Solent. I am also pretty sure that is Rod in the pit.

The boat was built by Henry B. Nevins of City Island, New York. Her construction was very unusual: 1/2" mahogany planking outside, 1/4" spruce inside, both laid longitudinally and screwed together from the inside.

She makes her home in England and is still very actively racing today, 80 years after her original launch date.

Here is the sail plan.

Principal Dimensions
LOA 36'-9"
LWL 23'-3"
Beam 6'-8"
Draft 5'-5"

We've got a great magazine article about this boat, too long to post here. If interested please just email me and I would be happy to shoot you a digital copy. Simply email me at bjohnson@sparkmanstephens.com.
